SAFETY FIRST

Jan. 13, 2020

Dear Residents,

Recently,  residents throughout Boca Pointe reported their vehicles had been burglarized. Most of the vehicles were only rummaged through, but some had valuables taken, or the vehicle was stolen. None of the vehicles in question showed evidence of forced entry. The Sheriff responded and took reports and commenced their own investigation. Security patrol frequency will be increased in the affected areas for a time, especially at night.

Effective security is a collaborative effort. Here are some guidelines you can follow to help reduce the elements of motive & opportunity associated with these crimes:

1. Secure your property. Lock your vehicles. It is exceedingly rare that a vehicle burglary in Boca Pointe involves forced entry. By securing your vehicles when not in use you eliminate much of the opportunity associated with the potential crime.

2. Keep valuables out of your vehicles, or out of plain sight. If a potential criminal sees a laptop or purse in your vehicle, that may produce the motive necessary for them to check the doors.

3. If you see something, say something. In the instances where perpetrators of these crimes have been apprehended in the past, it is usually younger people. They tend to access the community circuitously on foot and walk the villages searching for vulnerabilities. Contact security immediately if you see groups of kids loitering near vehicles or walking your communities at night. We are available 24/7 at (561) 395-3392.
