SWA NEW TRASH COLLECTION

July 25, 2019

The Solid Waste Authority will enforce a new waste collection protocol for Palm Beach County homes starting October 1st, 2019.

Under service provider FCC, garbage collection will transition from manual to semi-automated.

Collection will still occur twice weekly, but residents must use and store new garbage carts, he said. The standard cart size is 95 gallons, but some communities opted to receive smaller carts that carry 48 or 65 gallons. The delivery of carts will begin the week of August 19th, 2019 but can’t be used until October 1st, 2019.

Collection containers must await service within 2 feet of curbs. They should vanish from the street’s proximity the same day as collection.

Other protocol changes include that residents with bulk trash will have one weekly chance to discard no more than three bulk items. There have been instances where residents foreclosing or moving away dumped an excess of bulk items outside creating an eyesore in the community.

For debris from small home repairs, which must be canned or bagged and weigh less than 50 pounds, there will be a 2-cubic-yard weekly limit. Collectors will not pick up yard waste that exceeds 6 cubic yards, and if residents have more waste, they can schedule additional removal and pay $8 per cubic yard. The exemption to the rule is debris left after a hurricane or other natural disaster.

Among the new modifications, recycling procedures in the county will remain unchanged, except that a new truck will collect those items.

Apartment communities using dumpsters will follow protocol as-is.
